The Daily Mail

I hate The Daily Mail because it pretends to be good journalism and it isn't. I don't mind The Sun and The Mirror so much because it's obvious that they're full of rubbish but everything about The Mail (layout, photograph style, banners, language) makes it appear decent.

I agree entirely and it is dangerous because lots of reasonably inelligent people actually believe what they read in it - including (to my shame) my parents - especially my father

The nature of the Mail has changed over the years and I'm not sure quite when it happened or whether it was just a slow descent into the pit. Of course it has always been rampntly Tory, but 20 years and more ago it was mainly thought of as a middle class womans paper - not for intellectual women obviously but certanly for thinking women. It had serious (if not in-depth) news mixed with fashion and up-market gossip. Women who worked in the city and suburban housewives were it's taget audience. I would not have bought it, but I would not have been particularly ashamed to be seen reading it back then.
